America's hospitals have traditionally been a magnet for volunteers. Countless Americans have served untold millions of hours assisting the patients and staff of hospitals nationwide. Salmon is fortunate to have a topnotch facility in the Steele Memorial Medical Center (SMMC). It is a wonderful place to volunteer.

What traits do hospital volunteers possess? Hospital volunteers typically have a mature, positive attitude. They are caring, with a compassionate demeanor and a friendly, outgoing personality. Hospital volunteers possess effective interpersonal skills and love helping others.

The "world of hospital volunteerism" is perhaps one of the most highly evolved sectors in the galaxy of volunteer opportunities. Over the many decades that hospitals have utilized volunteers, policies, procedures, training, supervision and much more have become very professional and sophisticated.

The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) has one of the best overall websites for their Volunteer Department. RSVP highly recommends a lengthy visit to this website.

The Huntsville Hospital also has a great website about volunteering. It's very impressive!

Chicago's Advocate Trinity Hospital volunteer website isn't as enormous as the MGH or Huntsville resources but it is definitely worth a visit.

The Yale-New Haven Hospital counts 1500 volunteers who serve about 83,000 annually!
